The red spider mite, but why red – it’s a sort of light brown colour that gets a bit redder later in the season?
Well, one thing is for sure, it’s a right little breeder!
Plus, it is immune to many insecticides, with some studies showing that it is becoming immune to ever more chemicals with every spraying.
These little mites really swarm though, ever weakening your plants.
So, we have turned to Nature yet again to sort out its own problems.
That’s where Phytoseiulus Persimilis comes in.
These little mites, so the story goes, came from Chile to Germany with some Limes, then spread around a bit.
To keep up with the Red Spider mites breeding it needs at least 21 degrees centigrade, which is easily obtained in the greenhouse or conservatory.
It will then be quite happy to chomp away at your Red spider mite through the summer.
