I would love to grow organic vegetables for everybody - but I just do not have the time.
Or perhaps the patience !
Very happy to do some very serious pottering in the greenhouse growing Chillies, Herbs and Salads, but all that hand weeding, all that string, all that picking off the bugs ( I love Butterflies - but them Cabbage White Caterpillars - Grrrrr ) it’s really hard, demanding, time consuming work.
That’s why Sheila and David Jenkins after 27 years at Green Acres Organic Farm have decided to retire.
Years of getting up at 4 a.m. didn’t really worry Sheila, but she eventually decided to persuade David to take it easy after she saw him weeding thousands of leeks - while using a walking stick to help him bend !
They really were pioneers, and not just in Herefordshire, when they decided organic was the way they wanted to produce.
Regarded eccentric perhaps at the start, now we are all beginning to realise, as they did all those years ago, that growing with nature, at natures pace, is by far the best way in the long run.
It’s one way of ensuring there is a long run.
However, and this is the good news at least for us, Sheila could not persuade David to retire completely.
He’s still keeping up the veg box delivery round ( they were pioneers at that too ) and they have agreed to grow vegetable plants for us.
Loads of new plants for my new raised bed, shown on part of my new raised bed !
So all those years of wonderful experience can be planted in your garden, they’re certainly planted in ours !
Their expertise ranges over so many different veggies, from Squash to Spring Cabbage, Beetroot to Broccoli, Courgettes to Calabrese, Tomatoes to, Oh I don’t know - you think of another ‘T’ !
Cauliflowers and Calabrese ( How did those cabbages get in there ?)

Beautifully flowered Runner Beans and Dwarf and Climbing French Beans too.

There are just so many vegetables to choose from, take a look at the table below.
- there must be something you like !.
“ Ah Ha “, I hear you say, in that “ I trusted MP’s once” voice.
“All that experience, all that careful organic tending all those varieties - all that cost you are going to charge me !”
No we are not.
