Lead you “.......From the lake to the meadow and on to the wood”
For the black bat, Night, has flown,
Come into the garden, Maud,
I am here at the gate alone;
And the woodbine spices are wafted abroad,
And the musk of the roses blown.”
Well, I just can’t put it better than Lord Tennyson - mind you he goes on to say “....the planet of love is on high” so if I was Maud I’d be a little bit careful !
Do agree with him, though, about surrounding this lovely arched gate with beautiful fragrances.
‘Woodbine’ we mainly know as Honeysuckle these days, but the lovely Musk Rose is still blooming away under its old name.
( Just take a look at the Himalayan Musk in our ‘Adirondacks’ photos. )
It’s ideal for leading to different parts of your garden.
This will seem to expand your whole area, and perhaps lend a bit of intrigue !
The sides of this arched gate are trellised, and the plants you grow up it could really define where it will lead.... and don’t say “right up the garden path” !
I’m thinking more of runner beans like Achievement Merit ( particularly lovely when grown with Carouby de Maussanne mange tout ) leading into a vegetable plot, or a long flowering
Clematis viticella to lead into a clearing in front of your Arbour, or perhaps an ivy like Hedera colchica 'Sulphur Heart' to frame your gated garden arch as it leads into a shady woody area.
The ‘Moongate’ arch can lead anywhere you want it too, borrowing from Tennyson again
“To the woody hollows in which we meet
And the valleys of Paradise.”
( Oh, I do hope somebody warned young Maud !)
The Moongate Garden Arch is 301cm x 142cm x 74cm
and is so easy to assemble – honest, even Joe can do it !
